Default Leaking coolant from this..thing? What is it? (Pic Inside)

I'm leaking coolant. Sometimes not a lot, sometimes quite a bit. Found the source (I think?).. So the hard pipe that connects to the bolt? It's leaking from right under there.. what is that piece? Maybe it's an o-ring?

Have you replaced the coolant flange? If not it's probably time, even if it's just the oring between it and the metal pipe it's always a good idea to do the flange if you're digging into it already. Temp sensor wouldn't be a bad idea either depending on how it looks, make sure to only use OEM parts, don't even think of going aftermarket for this.

The coolant flange? Should take a first timer 30 minutes

Are you kidding? I did the timing belt, control arms, drive shafts, and numerous other things to my B5 when I had it... the coolant flange is by far the biggest pain in the *** I ever encountered on that car! Hahaha... I laugh to keep from crying

hey man i did mine last night and it only took about an hour when it was completely done. all you really need is a 10mm socket and an assortment of extensions both long and short, a rachet swivel adapter (helped big time), a flat head screwdriver to pry the plastic clip(s) that hold the coolant sensor and the metal one that secures the lower coolant hose, and a phillips screw driver and channel locks to remove the coolant reservoir to make some extra room.

i just took out the one 10mm bolt holding the metal coolant line to the intake manifold to give it some wiggle room and the rest was pretty easy. message or email me if you have some questions: joshuadannais@gmail.com
