I was wondering what smoking is exactly. I've read about lots of people doing it on this site and was wondering if someone could give me the DL on how to do it, seeing as thats one of my STC mods that I want to do. Would someone care to give a quick version of a DIY right here or give me a link to a DIY thread for it?

 

im sure if you search around there should be some, even on this site. i think we talked about it a couple years ago or something. basicly the best way i heard is to get sprey tint (think 3m makes some) and do light coats and wet sand inbetween the coats until you get the darkness you want.

 

Cool, and does that just go on the lights as they are on the car or do I have to take them out and put it on the inside of the cover? I would guess the latter for weather reasons, but I've been wrong before. Thanks.

 

you paint right over the outside of the tail lights (take them off the car first). pick up some NightShade spray tint and then coat them to the desired shade.

 

Yeah definently take them off the car. i heard that can be kinda a bi*ch to do.. ive been thinking about doing but i havent decided yet..

 

Hmm, ok. I thought it would go on the inside of the lens... At least thats what one of the other threads said. I searched for tail light smoking in the general tech section on the main page and one of the threads that popped up said to spray it on the inside. Either way, I think I'll definitely take them off first. Maybe I'll have a local body shop help with that...

As for the NightShade you mentioned, is that a custom order-offline thing or would a place like autozone have it?

honestly? sell the clears on ebay where they came from and tint your stock tails... i have the 96 tails with on a portion tinted, lift a red stripe across the middle. I'll get some shots today and post them... if you're going to keep the clears, completely tint them.

Lol. Ok with all seriousness I totally dislike them from a personal point of view but we all have our own cars to do as we may... so go for w/e look YOU like. Just expect to get ripped on

 

I just dont understand why they make those taillights. I just dont get it.
