You need to get more info from the seller. With that mileage, the timing belt should have been done at least two or three times by now. If it hasn't been done or the seller doesn't have documentation proving that its been done, either walk away or offer him $2k. What year is it? Motor? Options? What kind of shape is the rest of the car in?

If it's the 30v and not an auto and documented well taken care of and no CELs, problems, etc I say go for it. Post year, engine, tranny type, and what service it's had done. Is it a quattro or fwd?

I just bought my 99 32v that was immaculate for 5k (had 191k miles). 5 speed with lots of upgrades, maintenance, etc. I know the mechanic who works on it (from a local Euro indy shop) so that also gave me much more confidence.

I find in cases like this, when people are selling the car is made out of gold, but when they offer advice for buying the advice is like the car is made out of dung. So, use your best judgement and provide more info so peeps can offer some help.

I dropped 2800 on mine.

211xxx on the clock, 220 now. Reason i spent so much, cuz the rest of the car is in neglected shape, is because it has a new motor. These guys are right. Had I to do it over again, I would have come out the gate offering 1500... Oh well, Live and learn.

To much money for that many miles regardless of its documentation IMHO. Is this your first car?
