Default Looking to buy a code reader

I just purchased my first Audi a 2000 Audi AWD A4.I would like to buy a code reader that will read and clear ABS, airbag and engine codes. At this point I have the ABS light on steady and a flashing brake light. Can anyone suggest a good code reader and if it is possible one that would work with the Audi and chevy, and ford. Not sure if I must buy one specific to the Audi. thanks, pete

all you need is an obdII reader, which works for all obdII vehicles, not sure exactly which year obdII starts. although im not positive if it clears abs and airbag codes, you may need vagcom for that.

Vag-com would be the cheapest option. The obd II code readers only do engine codes. Although they are quite nice to keep in the glove box.

obdII read most vehicles and are 97-current i believe. its like 50 bucks, a good investment imo. considering it costs about 50 bucks to have a shop read the codes. with the vag com you need the software which you can download for free and a laptop (which im sure you have). i dont have the vag com cable yet, so i cant really vouch for it- but im pretty sure you can read codes with it, correct?

Autozone will read and clear any engine lights. (OBDII) For free.

I personally keep my own code reader though.
