I get 27 mpg straight highway driving but average 21 mpg around town which includes some highway speeds. I don't think you will see consistent 30mpg and I'm pretty sure you can't de-tune to improve the mileage. I always have the climate control set on automatic. The 2000 1.8t is not a gas sipper by today's standards. Fun to drive however.

Mileage will also be different from Quattro to FWD. I drive Quattro, and yeah my mileage isn't what I would consider "good".

I'm currently getting 10 or so mpg with my APR Stage 1 chip. I blame my foot though lol

I drove 500km on half a tank, most was highway driving, quite happy with the mileage.

atw 5 speed with 27 mpg average combined highway/city, mostly highway. speedtuning chip. How old is your front Oxygen sensor? a new one might improve mpg.
