Air compressor is the only way I've done it, I suppose you could use a tire pump lol. Is the turbos going out you will want to replace it as soon as you can. Turbos usually go out with a 'bang' (meaning blowing seals and throwing your oil down your exhaust, shooting metal shavings into your engine, and much more fun stuff)

I'll try and see what I can do for a test. I don't think the turbo is going though. I just emailed speed tuning to see how much boost I should be making as well.

Not necessarily. If you wait long enough, yeah something bad will happen. It is better to catch it BEFORE that stuff happens, which is why I stated

I say some dumb **** some times, but this is not one of those times. check your turbo for shaft play. side to side and in and out. don't worry about anything else first.

FYI, speedtuning spikes at 18 psi for their "stage 2" or whatever program. I know because I had it.

Really 18 PSI? I don't remember that number at all when I got the specs. I'm not jumping to the extreme right now. If I do a boost leak test and there's no leaks I'll start to worry... A little. If I had to bet I'd say there is a leak somewhere, probably multiple if I had to guess.

**I do however seem to have the number of 1.2 bar for some reason so that would in fact be close to 18 PSI. Maybe that was another company or in fact speedtuning. Hmmm

Speed tuning said up to 1 bar of boost with my tune. So around 14-15 PSI. Probably a small boost leaks somewhere or my turbo being 14 years old @ 133k miles just doesn't have that much power anymore. Which is understandable.

I had the ST Stage 1 tune (91 octane) for roughly 5 years, and from day 1 was boosting 18-20psi spike according to my boost guage. 133K miles is nothing for the K03 turbo if treated properly throughout its life, mine went to 249K I believe it was, and still wasn't "bad" .....I initially switched to my K04 because of a loud whistle when jumped from the ST Stage 1 tune to their Stage 3 (k04 tune) however after having the turbo switched out found there was still only a small amount of shaft play. Even with the "treating it properly" comment, I never let it cool down over the course of its life. However, I did always change my oil every 5K with fully synthetic. I purchased the vehicle in 2003 with 64K......

In reality, the change in noise (i.e. whistle) because of the change in effective boost from the Stage 1 to Stage 3 programs is what "I believe" led to replacing the 249K old K03. That was my situation anyway.....

Well I don't know what to say I contacted speedtuning directly and that's what they told me. I don't think the turbo is bad. The previous owner always had it serviced at the dealer so it was kept up well.

I just really want to get in there and do a boost leak test. Should tell me a lot I just don't have the tools right now to do one.

Oliver obviously doesn't know his own tunes, I know this first hand seeing as I've been dealing with him since 2008 or so. He was telling my my Stage 1 should've only been a 1 bar too, well that's not accurate so I'd believe what the boost gauge says. Not only that, but he couldn't even tell me much about the K04 tune I have now. I still don't know who wrote the damn thing.....

Did you have any other mods because 12 PSI to 18 is a good difference. I'm really curious to see how my boost leak test goes. Have to See what I can come up with tomorrow to try and do it. It's all the original vacuum lines as far as I can tell btw.

Look man, him and I both had speedtuning. It maxes at 18 psi. Here is the exact thread that I was in on for a group buy way back in 2009. https://www.audiforums.com/forum/spe...1/#post1105821

Now, you can dick around with your boost leak test all you want, but I am telling you to check shaft play on your turbo. Have you done that yet?
