Default MAF mod

hey

so ihave a second maf for my 97 2.8 B5 laying around and so i though hey, i can cut out the bad in the middle of the maf for better flow.

i did that, then used my dremel to smooth the walls where the bar was and i left the section where the acully maf sensor goes in to protect it.

i installed it in my can, and it ran fine fora bit while i let it idle, then i took it on a test frive and it haf way more throttle response but then the check engine light came on and it went into safe mode, i then reset it and put the stock maf back in.

just wondering why it did that and can anyone help me to get it to work??

thanks

MAF modifications really don't net you any gains, at least not generally for the headache involved. Mance made some modified MAF parts for the 12v, but the results were only "butt dyno" type of results and "throttle response improved" type of claims.

Odds are the TB of your car has less flow than your stock MAF, thus even by improving the MAF, it's not the bottleneck, and would net no gains.

1-3k depending solely on the body and mileage (yeah its a dead engine but it can still have low mileage internals that are good.

yeah but correct me if im wrong but don't passat/audi have interferense motors, that timing belt broke could mean motor garbage. when they break unless it broke at a unusal time, 96% of the time bend valves and such
