Hi Guys, I hope one of you has an idea to help me!

I have just had my AMD Remapped '96 A4 1.8T looked at by my normal mechanic because it has been misfiring and does this everytime I give it a little extra gas!

He changed the plugs...didn't help
He changed the Coils...didn't help
He even changed the ignition something or other and that didn't help either.

I just drove it home and changed the plugs for myself for new plugs of the correct spec and it made the problem MUCH worse. So I have changed them back and of course the problem is still there but not as bad as with the new plugs!

Does anyone have an idea to help me before I have to give my car to the dreaded Audi Dealer money eater???

Wow...you didn't really let a person change all that did you? You don't even know what the 3rd thing is???
1st thing you should do - learn about your car (no offense)
2nd thing - get a new mechanic
3rd thing - gap your plugs smaller - .28

What kind of plugs are using?

 

ICM maybe?

 

gap for sure, it done it to me everytime i dont gap them or get them all the same

ya he's talking bout the ICM. sometimes people forget things ya kno, and if you knew the ignition components you would know it's the ICM like turbo said. change your ECT too, it can do funny things to your car when it goes bad. it's a really cheap part and easy to change too. also, get your car scanned for codes and post them here.

And fair do's to the mechanic cos he changed all that stuff, and changed it back again and didn't charge me anything cos he hadn't found the fault...a rare thing nowadays!

ps. with the fault diagnostics...no fault code was being shown at all!

Gapping the plugs didn't make any difference unfortunately!

What should I try next?

 

Is there any point in Gapping even smaller than 0.028? Which is 0.7mm by the way :-)

 

I've tried gapping them smaller to 0.6mm and it seems to have helped a bit...

What is confusing me is that when I change the spark plugs completely for different new ones the problem makes the car undriveable!

What could that mean?

did you try re-gaping the new ones or the old ones?
