Sorry if this has been posted before but I haven't turned anything up using the search feature.

I recently purchased a used 1999.5 A4 Avant Quattro with the roof rack and cross bars installed. The cross bars have locks at each end, but I never got any keys for these!

I understand that Thule is the manufacturer of these cross bars but there are no markings (none whatsoever) that I can see on the locks that would help pinpoint what replacement key I'd need to order.

I called my local shop's parts department and had them looking things up with my VIN but came back basically empty handed (I could get new lock cylinders but no replacement keys).

If anyone has any advice for how to find out which key I need it would be much appreciated!

 

I was under the impression that Votex manufactured the OEM cross bars for Audi/VW, not Thule. Can you post some pics? If the bars are in fact made by Thule, you'll need a master key to remove the lock cylinders so you can replace them with new ones. I can only assume the OEM bars have a similar key, though I've never heard or seen of one.

 

I'll post some pics tomorrow morning. I'll shoot the cylinder itself where you insert the key, and as much of the bar as I can light up tonight with my flash. Anything else that would be helpful to photograph?
