Default Muffler Bearings!

Been hearing some awfully strange noises...

I haven't had time to play with my car. Anyone want to confirm my suspicions?

is your turbo boosting? any oil leaking? is the sound coming from top of the motor or bottom (oil an area)? or specifically from the cat/turbo part?

Can't think of what the engine or turbo could spit out that would make make that sound while bouncing around in the cat, but it does sound like a bearing. I'd guess the honeycomb is in pieces, possibly due to how upsolute runs so rich Time for a test pipe!

I knew someone would say it. Always raggin' on Upsolute!

Car is a bit down on power, noticeably, but it hasn't been enough to justify puttin' myself out of a ride for a few days. I don't have a boost gauge, so I don't know my boost levels. No oil leaks, MIL, DTCs... car runs ok otherwise.

I wasn't even thinking about a bad turbo. I was thinking a bad cat monolith, like onepoint8tee. The noise is loudest at the primary O2 with a stethoscope.

I can't run a test pipe in CT. I'll never pass emissions, visual or sniffer. I was thinking more along the lines of a LaBree HFC, as it's cheaper than I can get an OEM cat from the good guys I know at Audi. It's probably best to pull the cat and look... and check the turbo at the same time.

"Honey.... My Audi is broken again"

"2500 to fix it?!? What is a "GT28 something something something?" And I just drove your car, the clutch is fine!"

"Yes, honey. The cat is bad and fried the clutch and the turbo all in one shot. These were the best prices I could find for upgrading... I mean FIXING my Audi."

Just disconnect the cat from the turbo and peek inside!

That's what I'm actually going to do right now. Hopefully the cat has cooled off.

Noticeably down on power huh? Maybe your wastegate flapper broke. But I'm sure you'd get a CEL if it did being a 00+. In my 97 when the wastegate arm was broken I didn't get a CEL, just no boost.

im kind of a noob... but i highly doubt that your muffler bearings would cause loss of power... im thinking its more engine related

although i took mine in and got mine replaced with aftermarket ones... now, i have much smoother accel, and my exhaust sounds a little better too!

......muffler bearings; FTW!

I just removed my cat off my b6 1.8t and installed VMR testpipe. 56,000 miles on it and is in excellent shape. Its yours if you want it make me an offer.
