Default muffler size for "98 a4 1.8t quattro?

I am interested in buying a magnaflow muffler for my a4 1.8t quattro. Does anyone know the size for my '98 a4 quattro turbo? Its an automatic trans if theres any difference between auto and manual.

Do you plan on doing just the muffler or the full exhaust? Then are you going cat-back or are you replacing the cat with a test pipe?

Honestly, any of their universal mufflers will work, the most popular among B5er's are the 14815 and 14816. Get one that you like and have an exhaust shop weld it on for you. You won't see any hp gains unless you replace the cat with a high flow unit or test pipe(catless).

yea, i was thinking of getting the 14816. And yea for now i want to get a little roar out of my car, as im tired of seeing the small stock muffler on my audi. Have you heard the muffler on a b5 before, because i'm looking for a good roar.

I have the 14815 but I also have a HFC and 2.5" piping as well, so my sound will differ from someone who has just the muffler. All in all it has a nice low tone when just cruising around at light load and at WOT its pretty damn loud with a little bit of raspyness.

if you don't want to go with a full exhaust have the muffler welded in and see if its to your satisfaction, if not have the stock resonator removed and have some piping welded in to replace it. Be warned some folks do not like the resulting drone after removing the resonator, so that is why I suggested hearing it with just the muffler first.

Mine was done at Peak Eurosport here in Denver. A shop shouldn't have any issues with removing the resonator, but it depends on emissions laws in your area. The resonator doesn't affect emissions, but if laws are strict in your state they may refuse. Best bet is to call shops in your area and google local exhaust modificatons laws for your state.
