Default Coolant leak...

Hey guys,

I'm reviving the thread here because I've got a couple questions and it looks like this is the right place to post. I've posted some pics in my gallery area of the overflow reservoir with pink spooge all around it, should i just replace it or is it fixable? If I should replace it what's the price range for a new/ used one?

Is there anything else that could cause this or is the overflow rez just done-for?

I don't know when the antifreeze was changed last but I was considering changing it at the same time Jiffy lube wants $100! That seems pretty frickin ridiculous to me and would rather do it myself but I'm not sure quite how to go about it. Also, does anyone know how to dispose of antifreeze in wash state?

Thanks all!

Dont go to Jiffy lube. Go to a place that is audi certified to do it if you go that route.

Have you heard of Exhalt Customs in El Cajon? I got to know the owner real well and he drives a twin turbo 2.7L S4. This car is sick. They do alot of Audi's/VW's out there!

Look for a cracked tank. Tank is $50 bucks or so from the dealer. Buy some coolant while you're there and take and hour out of your day to drain the old coolant, replace the tank, and fill it back up. Stay away from Jiffy Lube.

if the water pump has 100k miles on it, that probably means the timing belt does too, and that is a bigger problem then boiling coolant.

Default Pics?

Thanks for the comments guys,

@ghost6303 & audi guru:

Were you able to look at the pictures I took?

Do you guys think its boiling indicating needing a new water pump or leaking indicating needing a new coolant tank? The previous owner said she had the timing belt replaced at 80K, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she had the water pump replaced now does it....

If it is in need of a new water pump, is it hard to do yourself? Also if I had a shop do it how much should I expect to be charged? Thanks again all!

if you need to dispose of coolant then put it down the drain. dont just let it run off. i hear its slightly poisonous or sumthn. haha. while the colant is drained you should flush your radiator. its just good to do every once in a while

are you putting water in it too? it should be a half and half mixture of coolant and water. and it doesnt have to be exavtly half and half, just about that much. if you really care then go to autozone and get a coolant tester. they are like 3 bucks and will tell you how high of a boiling pt it has as wel as the freezing pt

Start with a new tank and cap and flush the coolant.
