My car doesnt like to reverse, HELP
Hello Everyone!! I am a new audi 2003 A4 owner and i have been having issues reversing. Almost 40% of the time i start my car push on the break and go into reverse and nothing happens. The car just sits there and if i try to push on the gas it starts making a vroom sound and wont go. I have noticed that when i look on the dash while this is happening all of the gears are lit up and it doesnt specify which gear im in. So if i keep putting it back and forth from park to reverse eventually it will jump and it will start reversing and now i can tap on the gas and it will go but then the gears on the dash board will all start blinking and will continue to do so until i turn the car off and start it back up. Is my transmission going out? Do i just need fluid? If there is someone on here who can help me out i would really appreciate it.

Hi. I have bad news for you. There is only two thing that it can be. You either have a bad transmission Mod or your 1st 2nd possiblly 3rd gear is gone. There one way to find out if the trany is trashed. You can drain and replace the trans filter and refill to correct operating level and recheck all the gears.(NOT JUST ANY TRANSMISSION FLUID, dealer coast is about $20 a quart and you need 6.5 quarts). After you have done the fluid and filter change if you can not go into reverse with out shifting from park to reverse repeatedly then you'll be shelling out 4K-6k depending on who and wher you take it to be repaired. I hope this thread help. PS I lost my 1-2-3 gears on I93 in Boston going 80mph. It felt like I had slamed the gear from 5th to 1st. Jesse

Your Transmission Module is going bad. If your display is Flashing that means your car in now in limp mode. It can get stuck in any gear at this point, like 3rd gear for example. When this happens you need to try to get it out of limp mode. Try turning the car on and off and taking the key out each time to reset it. Sometimes as many as 6 times. After the display stops flashing, your engine light will remain on for the next 3 drive cycles. If this doesn't work....then you have possibly already done damage to your transmission. If you can get it reset and out of limp mode...You need to get it fixed before you totally mess up the transmission! If you continue to drive it that way, you will need to replace the transmission. The Transmission Module with parts & labor will cost under $2000....but if you keep driving it the way it is...It will cost you about $6,000. I would get it to a shop as soon as possible, before it's too late. Also, Transmission modules are a special order part and generally takes 2 weeks to get in.
^^^ hahaha! That's FUNNY! Did I say that wrong? LOL
Okay well, basically it is no longer being controlled electronically by the transmission modules which simulates mannual shifting.

I went to an Audi shop and they said i needed to replace my throttle body and some kind of compartment in the transmission. Said its gonna cost me 2,700. Wow. I read on here that there is some type of throttle body cleaner how do you know if the throttle body needs cleaning verses replacing?
The compartment that they will need to replace is submerged in transmission fluid towards the back of the transmission.......The compartment contains the transmission module. That part alone costs almost $1200 and is a special order part, and then about $600 in Labor. I am not sure about the trottle body..... I haven't priced that. I would call around to some other audi certified shops and ask how much parts and labor would be to change the Transmission Module and Throttle body. Definately check around on the pricing!!! The shop I go to charges 1/2 the price of stealerships!!
