my car is smoking!
Sup everyone, i was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I have a 2000 AUDI A4 1.8T Quattro. I started my car yesterday for the first time in a week (it's laying home while im going to school in the city) and it started shaking, i saw a check engine light i didn't think much of it and started driving and noticed that whenever i pressed on the gas the car would shake more.. pretty freaked out at this point and after a little bit of time it was smoking from the front passenger side... i popped the hood and saw what looked like burning on the bottom i checked the oil and there was no oil in it whatsoever and i just recently got an oil change.. about 2 1/2 weeks ago and its barely been driven... I let the car cool down and it was still pouring out smoke.... my coolent levels are fine, and my engine heat level is in the middle as always.. any one know what this could be?
Good chance if it was fine before... If they forgot the filter gasket all together it would have been an immediate issue. I'm guessing the old double gasket screw up since it's very common for the 16 year olds that work there and it can take a while to leak it all out.

Was your CEL flashing? If so the smoke was from raw unignited fuel gettig dumped into your cat/exhaust and reaching incredible exhaust gas temps. The lack of oil is probably unrelated, but something to be concerned about for sure. Make sure there is oil in the engine and get your ecu scanned for faults codes and post the codes up and we'll go from there. If you dont want to drive it (you probably shouldnt if the cel flashes) then get a ride to autozone or advance and you can borrow their scanner if you leave a refundable deposit.
The oil filter is on the rear drivers side. You said the smoke is coming from the front passanger side...

most likely. either they didn't replace the copper ring on the oil pan or didn't scrape off the old filter gasket. both would cause oil to steadily leak out. and the shaking could have been cause by low oil pressure.
what sucks about this situation is that I cannot even get this fixed for a few weeks.. I am going to be catching a train back to nyc in a few hours and wont be able to make it home.. i know someone that works at volkswagon/audi of greenwich but his phone is off.. err, i will let everyone know whats wrong with it when he checks the fault codes.. thanks for the heads up on what to expect guys. very much appreciate it.
