Post My First Tune Up

Not the car's lol. I have a day off work tomorrow and I'm looking for suggestions and tips on a tune up. What should my list include? (First tune up since owning car) I really only know when the last oil change occured and that the belts/hoses are good. So far, here's my list: oil/filter, air filter, spark plugs. What else? I'm probably going to seafoam my oil before I change it because the car has 170k. So anything to add to my list? Any certain brands/types? Any tips? Thanks AudiForums!

Do you know when your fuel filter was changed last?

make sure not to use a fram oil filter. also change your cabin filter, it's on the passenger side under that black box looking thing. another thing you should do is clean the throttle body.

+1 on the cabin air filter, I changed mine about a month ago, and the **** was so nasty i'm not sure it had ever been changed.

Ok, I looked up the cabin filter on AutoZone and it had two choices; charcoal and particle. Which do I need? Or do I need both?

How do I clean the throttle body and will it be a big hassle?

Finally, I don't know when the fuel filter was changed, and I read a DIY on audiy.com about it. Looks kinda on the difficult side. There's a lot of work to get to that filter.

Another question: on oil filters, which do you guys recommend more? Mann or K&N Gold?

you should flush your transmission and rear differential fluid if it hasnt been done in the last 20k miles. i like redline MT90 and mobil1 75w90, respectively.

make sure to use a good oil filter, no fram, no purolator, no K&N. buy an OEM MANN filter from a dealer or use the mobil1 M301 filter. also only use fully synthetic oil.

ya i usually use a Mobil 1 oil filter. Mann is kind of expensive though. the fuel filter is a difficult job so do that another time. as for the throttle body, you just remove the hose before it and then spray the throttle body with throttle body cleaner. make sure to let it dry or lightly wipe it with a towel. i wouldn't start it with the TB all wet. it's to get the carbon out of it and it'll help your idle too.

the cabin air filter can be either charcoal or particle, you don't need both. Charcoal is short for Activated-charcoal, just a method of cleaning **** out of the air. The particle filter is apparently a little better, also a little more expensive. Whatever floats your boat!

I used seafoam into my intake system a few months ago. I think it did the same thing, but it was after the throttle body, directly into the intake mani.
