Need advice on to buy or not...
Hi All!
New to Audi's...coming over from a 2000 Saab 9-3.
Thinking of purchasing a 2000 A4, 1.8 with 86k miles asking $7500. Dealer claims that the owner took good care of it (there are actually notes written under the hood about what was changed and when- in white marker). Dealer will go through everything before purchase. Am also purchasing a 2 year warranty which includes more than I expected.
Any advice/thoughts, etc? Thanks!!

sounds like a decent deal i bought my 99 A4 a year ago with 98K miles for 9K from a dealership. make sure you find out from the dealer when the timming belt was done last. Right now i have a timing kit on order for mine hopefully itll be here mid next week.
thanks! will definitely ask about this on Monday. Also, since it's close to the 90k major service, I'll see if I can get this done as well.
The driver's side heated seat did not work...how much is this to replace?

i have no idea on the seat but you might want to lookinto if its a bad fuse.
if you can get the dealership to change the belt for free that would be best as its not exactly cheap to do. im spending about 300 for parts and tool rental and doing the work myself. Also another common issue is with the sunroof randomly opening up which can be sorted out by cleaning the contacts on the control.
gl with the new car if you get it

Great thinking on the warranty. I wouldnt purchase the car unless you have money to spend on part failure's, or will work on your car no matter how severe the issue may be on your car(i.e. Engine removal). Repair costs are astronomical on these beautiful automobiles. Thank god I work on my own B5. ;'
My plan is to keep the car for at least 3 years. I've had my current Saab for 5 years and have had no real issues except in the past month the radiator and head gasket are both leaking. For me, it's not worth repairing as it has 120,000 miles and I am looking for a new car. Will keep the car and give it to a family member (they can decide whether or not to repair).
Will definitely tell the dealership about the timing belt, sunroof and driver's side heated seat. Am aware of the sludge problem in this model, and they've written down that as long as I use snythetic oil, they will cover any sludge problem. When I was driving it today, noticed a whistling sound at about 30-45 mph...any ideas?
