Default Need a Diagnoses

Ive had a check engine light on for a few weeks now. I dont have the exact codes on me. But they were for engine misfire, and the engine running lean. Ive read around and have done some searching. I dont have any idling issues or start up issues or loss of power issues (minimal if any)...so i dont believe its a MAF issue. Im leaning more towards it being a vacuum hose problem.

But before i checked the hoses i wanted to clean the MAF just see if it would turn the engine light off before i tried to do anything with the hoses.

...im not really familar with whats under the hood or how to go about getting to/cleaning/replacing the MAF or redoing the hoses. ive also been looking around for a thread or place with some pics for a walk through. can anyone point in in the right direction. i have no doubt i can do the work (dont want to pay the dealership or shop to do simple work and charge me an arm)...ive done a good amount of work on my jeep (suspension work and drive lines etc etc.) i just want to make sure im not messing it up worse.

the maf is inside the airbox, its a black tube about 6" long, black mesh at one end, with sensor coming out of it at a 90* angle. if you think you have a bad maf, what you do is disconnect it so that the ECU runs off of a baseline map instead of reading the sensor. if your problems get better by unplugging it, then you have a bad MAF. if not, then you dont.

i would guess its more of a vacuum leak somewhere though.
