Default need help!

i just got a 1999 audi a4 quattro a couple of months ago. all i can say is wow i love this car. i have been out of town for about a month and i let my older brother use my car. when i got back in to town the only thing i wonted to do was drive my car. i have only drove the car about 1 month before i left out of town.

when i made it back i drove the car down the street everything seemed fine in tell i made a left had turn and i heard a knocking sound coming from the front left tire. it sounded like i was going up a roller coaster or something. it only does it when i make a left had turn. im thinking its a axle i hope. does anyone have some idea what it might be? and how much it well cost to get it fixed

thanks for the help

wheel bearing!?
Does the sound come from the left wheel or the right one when you do a left turn?
If the sound comes from the right wheel when you turn left It could be the right wheel bearing.
have it checked, hoist the car up and try to move the wheel upwards ( hand up to 12' to 6') if it plays it might be the wheel bearing.

Or

If its and axleshaft it should be cracked, the noise its making is because it has lost all the grease. Just look around for signs.

Most likely it is the axle shaft. It will be obvious because there will be a whole lot of grease in that area. If not, I have another question for you. Does it matter how fast you are going when you turn left? Does it only make the noise when you are making a fast left turn, or does it make the noise when you go slow too?

Sorry to threadjack but I think I have the same problem with my driver's front end. I thought it might be the shock being blown. How much do these axle shaft's run and is it a DIY procedure? I take it that bad wheel bearings are easier to replace than an axle shaft?
