need help! audi fell apart on me 1 week after buying
Hey all this is my first post and i need major help. and before you reem me I did use the search bar. I purchased a 99 A4 quattro 2.8 and within a week the headlight switch just broke off and i believe that is also the same part as the turn signal so i would have to replace both. and than the clutch decided to go out on me. at least i think so. It gave me a hard time shifting at first and now wont even go out of neutral. Clutch just feels very soft now when its depressed. I got a part estimate on full clutch kit and headlight switch. It was around 500$. Is there anyway to do labor yourself or with someone with a decent knowledge of audi's? what's a clutch replacement consist of how much would it cost from a specialist if anyone happens to know?. Thank and please help
I believe you are correct in that the headlight switch and turn signal switch share a base in the steering column. Cheapest solution would be to source the part from a part out. Shouldn't be too hard to find one.
You can't shift into any gears? What about reverse? Is the clutch just not engaging or can you physically not put it into gear?
You can replace the clutch on your own, but I wouldn't call it a walk in the park.

That writeup is for a 1.8T, I don't know if its any different for the 2.8.
When my clutch gives up the ghost I will most likely have my shop replace it. I've been quoted $1,200-1,400 installed depending on the clutch kit chosen.

shift into any gear, turn the car on, drive like usual. if your rpms fly up, no more clutch. shops are rediculously exspensive, if you have the tools, do it yourself. my first one took 19 hours, but that was with a badly cut right pointer finger. i save that much money for other things. if youre gonna get a stock clutch, you shouldnt pay more than 300. that light and turn signal thing shouldnt cost more than like 30
yea i found the headlight thing online for like 30 bucks. auto zone wanted like 150. it used to shift into gear and just rev up the RPM's but now i press the clutch and it doesn't go into gear. i can't move it out of neutral. i feel like i would have to force it and break something else.
