Default Need opinions on an a4.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and I am considering buying an audi. I have driven an acura integra for a few years now and I feel its time to upgrade. Ive considered STis, Evos, etc etc, but overall I think an a4 with appropriate mods would be a better fit for me. So ive been browsing all over classified sites in the northwest usa/lower mainland BC trying to find a b6 a4 in good condition with a standard transmission. I haven't had much luck online, and then the other day this a4 shows up for sale on the side of the road like 5 minutes away from where I live:

1998.5 quattro with ~96,000mi/154,000km, originally from colorado, asking $16,000 Cdn

Heres the mod list I got from the guy:
Engine:
1.8 turbo, PES T-28 turbo kit, GIAC software and 100 octane race chip, 440 cc injectors, PES exhaust manifold, Scorpion 70 mm center pipe-back exhaust, TAP 70 mm exhaust down pipe, aftermarket high flow cat, TurboXs Bypass valve, K&N X-stream air filter, S4 vented wheel liner
Transmission:
Five-speed manual, Spec Stage 3 clutch kit, B&M short shifter, AWE Drivetrain stabilizer. transmission and clutch was replaced 8,000 kms ago.
Suspension:
H&R Ultra coilovers, Sport swaybars
Wheels & Tires:
18x8 Oettinger RE, 235/40/18 yokohama tires
Brakes:
Stoptech big brake kit, 332 mm crossed drilled rotors, 4 piston Stoptech calipers, front and back stainless steel brake lines
Bodywork:
OEM RS4 front bumper from germany, Rieger side skirts, Rieger S4 rear valance, Hagus sport mirrors, European code 1 piece headlights, 6500K xenon bulbs, RS4 front grille, 35% tint, debadged everything except Audi rings .... bumper and side skirts were put on 5,000 kms ago.
Interior:
Autometer Ultra-lite series boost gauge, Autometer a-pillar gauge mount, B&M shift ****, Sparco grip pedals, NR Auto white gauge faces,
Audio:
Image Dynamic 5.25", 2x 10" Alpine type R Subwoofers, 2 8" Image Dynamic Mids, 2 memphis 1000w amps one for the subs and one for the speakers, full custom deck lid painted pearl white.

Timing belt was done around 5000kms ago and the turbo was put on around 15,000kms apparently, front end suspension stuff was also done recently.

I haven't test driven it yet as the guy won't be in town for a few more days. So going off what info I have, does this look like a good value? If I buy it will I have to worry about things constantly breaking on me and it spending a lot of time in the driveway/shop? Anything I would want to have specifically checked out by a mechanic? Would I be better off buying a cheap b5 and modding it myself, or buying a more expensive b6 and doing some mods over time as I have money available? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

With the mods or not that price tag is insane. Mods don't add value to a car and I doubt a bank will finance a car that old just my 2 cent.

He wasn't advertising it as an S4, I didn't mean to give that impression by accident.

Basically the price is the biggest factor in the "reasons to NOT buy it" list. But then I wonder, how much would it cost to get a stock b5 and bring it up to the same level that this car is on (allegedly, would take it to a shop before I ever bought it to verfify its condition), performance and appearance wise?

stay away from it. you dont know how much he abused this car, it is better to buy an a4 stock that some old lady drove and then you can mode it and end up in a way better position money and quality wise.

my personal opinion is the same as the others...nothing feels better than doing the mods yourself and knowing you did them correct and to YOUR taste. If it was somebody I know that does quality work, would consider it, like if it was from someone here well known, you did mention $15k Cdn, how much is that in US? I'm assuming not much of a difference since recently we have had the same dollar value. anything over $7k or $8k for a b5 is just stupid, i don't care how much stuff the person had put into it...unfortunately...keep the search on my friend, unless you wanna ask him why is he selling in the first place, if he gives you a QUICK DIRECT answer, then i guess maybe he seems honest, on the other hand if he starts stuttering or mumbling nonsense, just cancel the meeting right then and there. In any case, $15k is just stupid

holy crap...if he ever sells the car at that price, kudos to him. no way that car is worth that much even with the mods. seriously, thats how much a B5 S4 would go for from where i am.

I agree with the other guys, I would pass on this one. With those mods he undoubtedly beat the snot out of the car, I have a bad feeling that you would be inheriting someone else's problem by buying that car. If you're looking to purchase a car thats already been modded, I would suggest looking for something a bit more mildly modified, like maybe exhaust, tune, and some minor other stuff.

Also for the record, that's not an OEM RS4 bumper, it's the Reiger RS4-Style bumper. The RS4 is a factory widebody, so the OEM RS4 bumper would not fit on that car. That right there tells me this guy is bullshitting you and the car isn't worth nearly what he's asking.

Way overpriced. If you want to spend $16k on an Audi, buy an S4, and make sure either you or a shop goes through it thoroughly before buying it. After 100k miles, the repairs for these cars can get real expensive real fast if you don't know how to work them.
