Default Need to replace/upgrade headlights on 2001 A4

I have heard that there are headlight conversion kits available. I don't know much about them. Does anyone have any experience or advice on who offers a good set? My right HID bulb blew and I don't want to spend $100 to replace the it.
Any advice on a street legal set from a reputable company would be great.

Thanks

If you have factory xenon headlights, you're not going to get any better lighting performance for less than the price of the new bulbs. I believe that the HID setup on yours uses D1S bulbs. You should be able to get a new pair of good bulbs for about $100. You can get a pair of aftermarket bulbs from the retrofit source for $75.

Buying new housings, ballasts and bulbs to convert to a D2S setup is going to cost way more. I spent about $250 retrofitting bi-xenon projectors in the place of my halogen projectors.

I don't believe they are xenon. The bulb that needs replacing is long and has a seperate rod running parallel to the buld. I wouldn't care about replacing it so much if it weren't for the fact that my headlights don't match; The guy I bought it from must have installed a different sort of bulb on the other side, so when the bulb blew, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to install headlights that finally matched each other.

How involved would it be to install something like this? Would it need new headlight housing units?

Digital Slim HID Conversion Kit

I defnitely want to keep from having to spend more $$ than I have to

If the picture below is your bulb, you have the OEM HID setup.

Usually if one bulb goes, the other is on the way out. The other problem is that as the bulbs age, they tend to "color shift". This means that the output color changes a little bit with use. Another reason to replace them as a pair. I would stay away from most of the aftermarket bulbs out there as they tend to run hotter than OEM ones with less light output.

Also be sure not to get a high color temperature. Many people believe that as the color temp increases (output colors more toward blue and purple) the lights are brighter. This is completely the opposite of the truth. Max luminous intensity is at 4300K which is why every OEM bulb runs this color.

Happy shopping!

Lightbulb Which D2S bulb to buy?

Looking on Amazon, I find the highest rated bulb (by reviewers) to be this
Philips D2S Xenon HID Headlight Bulb Philips D2S Xenon HID Headlight Bulb
there are other D2S bulbs that are cheaper, but I want the one that will give me best light, least headache. Can anyone vouch for these? Is there somewhere else I should order bulbs that are of higher quality/better fit to my 01 A4/B3?

Appreciate any advice, I hate to throw away ~$130 on new bulbs for my car, I've never changed the bulbs myself and want to save some money and not take it to the dealer this time.
