Default Need selling advice for 99.5 A4 1.8T

Hey all,

We just got an A6, so we're going to sell my wife's 99.5 A4 1.8T. We are the original owners, so we know the entire vehicle history. Knowing Audi's and this car in particular real well, we know what has been serviced recently and what is likely to need servicing soon. It's a low miler (48K), so it would be a find for someone looking for this particular model. How should we go about selling it? Craigslist? AutoTrader? eBay? Carmax?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Craig's list would be your best bet. Having a complete maintenance history will help you a lot. Only 48K miles, huh? Must be in good shape. Even though you're still several thousand miles from needing a Timing Belt, you might want to have it done (DIY for cheap, mechanic for 750-1000 bucks) and make sure you add that in your listing. If the car is still in great shape you might be able to list for about 6,500 but I would expect to haggle to about 5500-5900.

I say CL because you'll have local buyers interested, and it's free. Also, posting here in the B5 forum might generate some interest, as well as posting in the classifieds here in AF. Have you done any kind of mods, even light mods like chipping? Make sure you list anything like that, as well as any major maintenance you may have had done, like control arms, water pump, suspension, etc.

Good luck, and welcome to the forums. Where is local for you anyway? And what year is the A6, I'm thinking of getting one for the wife as well...

I don't know, I think 7-8k is going to be pretty hard to get even with the low miles. KBB only rates it at ~6k for excellent if it's a quattro. And only 4k if it's a FWD. Unless he sold it to a forum member who's in love with B5's (which we all are yes ) I doubt he'd get 7-8k. That's a bit high if you ask me.
