First of all let me clear up one thing Im leaning towards a B5 S4 to make around 350-400chp. Here is the car in question an obviously it has high mileage and probably some issues but with a $20k budget those could be fixed. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...2&rdpage=thumb I know a full engine rebuild would not fit nicely in that budget but if i do alot of the work myself why would it cost anywhere over $12k? Not that I am pushing for this the money would probably go to a chip/exhaust, suspension, brakes, and a center diff. Also are either the front or rear diffs locking on an S4? and at most this will be some friendly competition between two good friends.

Go with an S4. If it wasn't for my lack of money I would have bought an S4 instead of my 2.8 A4.

APR Stage 3+ uses the 28rs and if you show proof of internal work they give you a race-file which pushes it even further, then you can do even more fine tuning with lemmiwinks. But no avarage Joe with the motivation of beating an M3 is gonna go through the whole process. I was just negative about the amount of hp because it takes a lot more than a bolt on kit. Sean is making more than 330 now and Greg is also making close to it in a DD elim kit. So I'll give you that 28's can make it to 350whp, or enough to round up for all the effort put into the set ups. But they're definetely more than $5,000 for hardware alone.

Edit: not counting that at least drop-in rods are required

It seems most people are not reading...... we are talking about an S4 not an A4 that can make 350hp on a K04's pretty easily...

Check your pm's..... I found one with 59k miles for around 10k. Even made them an offer that was lower because it didn't sell. Although I think the numbers I saw were crank hp so I don't know what it takes for 350 whp.
