Default new to audi's

Possibly looking at getting this Audi, don;t know much about them... any red flags here? I;m a good mechanic just haven;t messed with many of these cars.

Also what type of performance specs do you think this A4 has after the upgrades?

Here's link:

maybe a bit shy of 400 hp, and it probably goes around a corner.
expect lots of maintenance costs, and dont forget its a 15 year old car. also any time you buy a car already done up by someone else, you are trusting their judgement in parts, installation, ect.
looks like a fun car though, and not having to build it yourself has its benefits too

I've had a 2003 TT A6 for a few years now. It is a fun car but as of yesterday and 63K miles, it looks like i'm having some major transmission problems. Was told it's going to be EXPENSIVE to fix Have had NO major problems until this. Anyone out there know if this is a common problem with these wonderful cars ????

These are the forums for Audi A4s from 1996-2001. Most of these people are familiar with these cars, and only these cars. You would be better off posting in the appropriate forums.

Also... Is it a TT or an A6? The A6 is a larger sedan, while the TT is a little roadster sports car.

There's lots of general maintenance that needs to be done. The most important is the timing belt, tensioner, water pump. You will also want to look out for Transmission oil changes, and rear differential oil changes. When I bought my car, I swear the previous owner never did a rear diff change, which I performed at about 160k KMs. It came out like chocolate milk, it was gross. Of course you want regular oil changes as well, but that doesn't need to be said. Everything else (as far as I'm aware) is pretty similar to looking at other cars.

Good to know. I'm gonna look it over and drive it hard and see how it handles it. Seems to be a decent car, as long as it runs well...
