Unhappy New car >>>help me out here<<<

I just got this car today. The guy had disassembled the whole front end when i bought it. there is a lot of wires and piping that i have no clue where they all go. any pictures or sites that you know could help, would be greatly appreciated. Also the is a crack in one of the pipes(see picture). Will that effect the performance. BTW is the blow off valve stock? and where does the other end connect to. Enjoy the pics. LOL will keep you guys updated on the project. Got a new used turbo today.

the BOV is not stock, as long as the valve is closed at idle it will work. it doesnt connect to anything. not sure where the crack is, if its in the circle in the bottom picture, yes that will leak boost.

it sucks that he removed the a/c lines, how long has it been disconnected like that? if its been more then a week or two you may be needing a new A/C system. when condensation and whatnot get in there it pretty much destroys the insides. when you remove the lines on any refrigeration system you need to have the ends sealed.

looks like you got yourself into quite a project. hope you know your way around a wrench. i would do the timing belt/water pump while your in there, if it hasnt been done already. good luck.

yeah, the crack is in the circle. i am not sure for how long the lines have been disconnected but i will seal it as soon as possible. tnx
btw do these cars have bov, i mean they must have something, but what do they have instead of that?
about the water pump and timing belt, i have to get the car running first, cause i am not 100% sure if there nothing wrong with the engine. The guy said the car had no boost. he said it's the turbo, and what i thing it is. There is a lot of shaft play. i also think the crack in the pipe could be a possibility.
will find out soon. lol

the crack in the pipe would cause a loss of boost. if its big enough you would even get zero boost. if your running that BOV, get a new hose to fix the crack, then cut the smaller hose to about 2 inches long, then put the BOV on the end of that. dont put it on the end of that huge snaking hose the way he has it, it could get kinked or rub against a belt or whatnot.

the stock A4 has a diverter valve, it connects the pre-turbo intake pipe with the post-turbo pipe. it recirculates the air instead of dumping it to the atmosphere. a BOV makes more noise which is why the kids like em. they can cause problems on audis under some circumstances.

the reason i said do the timing belt now is because you have to take the entire nose of the car apart to get in there anyways. no reason to put it all together and then take it apart again.

you can do a compression test to make sure theres nothing wrong with the engine now. just put a breaker bar on the crankshaft and turn the engine over by hand. compression should be above 170-180 psi and should be equal between all cylinders +/- 10psi.

when you are swapping turbos make sure you atleast clean the old oil supply lines going to the turbo, if not replace them. that could be the reason the old turbo is shot, clogged supply lines.

btw 1500 is a steal, the parts alone are worth twice that.

1500 is an awesome deal no matter if the car runs or not.

haha. i put another 1500 aside to fix it, for parts when i bought it. i can do almost anything myself. so 1500+1500=$3000. i wanted an AWD anyways, so this is perfect. you definitely need one if live up here in Michigan. lol

just a thought i would pull off those back cam bearing caps real quick and check to see if there fucked up 1.8's do have a good amount of sludge problems. ifs there real scored up the block is prolly going to be real messed up too. just neeed a t30 to pull them off just dont loosen the cam tensioner.
