Hey
Just wanted to drop in say whats up. I have a 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro, 5-Speed. I picked up the car several weeks ago and since then been using the search function to read up on these cars. Since purchased the car I've gotten 15% tint and replaced a few wheel bearings.

Future mods:
HID headlights
possibly a chip (giac or speedtuning)
Vag-Com for sure

Welcome to the forums. Yeah, replacing wheel bearings is a very common thing for these cars. You can find most answers to your questions on here as well as many links to DIY writeups. These cars have a lot of common problems but with a few tools and some forum searching, you can fix most problems yourself. Also, there are some really good online retailers to get parts from instead of going to the dealership. Good luck!

Cool thanks for the picture advise I'll fix it once I get to a computer right now I'm using my iPhone. I forgot to add I made sure that I purchased my car from the origional owner who had all the maintenance records since the car was new. I'm continuing to run only synthetic through it as did the previous owner. Also, the car has 111k. Do you guys have a small red piece next to your 1.8t badge? I'm guessing it means it has sport suspension or something.

The only mechanical problem I am having at the moment is a rubbing vibration that can be heard and felt towards the front of the car upon slowing down. Both front wheel bearings have been replaced within 1000 miles so I have ruled those out. From 45mph to a stop the vibration can be noticed. The tires have been balanced and the alignment has been done. The tires were replaced 5000 miles ago. Additionally, if I put the car into neutral from 45mph to a stop the vibration and rubbing feeling can be noticed. I have searched around the forum and came up with possibly a driveshaft bearing. It is almost a grinding feeling in the front of the car right before it comes to a complete stop.

The Red next to the T was only done on the 2001-2001.5 for the B5 A4 1.8t and IIRC it means you have the sport package.

Cool, thanks for letting me know. I figured that why it has sport seats in it. I'll upload some interior pics.

In reference to the vibration problems, I just got done driving around carefully listening to the noise and logging down when the noise was most prevelant. I came to the conclusion that the noise is really not all that bad yet, I'll probably mess around with it later.

You might have to check the stock shocks, not sure if the 99 got the sport 3 spoke steering wheel.
