Default New to me 01 A4

Just got a new to me 01 A4 Avant, 1.8T engine, 5sp. Seems like a well maintained car for its age, but like all cars this old it has a few things that need attention. And I wanted to ask a few questions here about some of the things I think this car needs:

First are a couple of noises I am trying to track down. The first happens whenever the car is in gear and engine braking. Sounds like a low rumble. It goes away if the clutch is pressed in, and come back when the clutch is released. I was thinking CV joints or maybe driveshaft bearing. Any thoughts on this?

Second noise sounds like sheet metal hitting something whenever I go over bumps or on a washboard road. From inside sounds like it is coming from the front passenger wheel area. Any likely culprits here?

This car also has the infamous missing pixels on the dash display. Typical missing rows. I understand one can send the cluster away for repair, but before I did that, I thought I'd ask if anyone has fixed this problem by cleaning and reseating the electrical connections on the back of the cluster?

Lastly I want to look into what I think is low rpm turbo lag. This engine does not seem to get going until ~3K rpm. Just wondering if that is normal, or if it is pointing to a problem. Also, possibly related, is there any easy way to tell if a PO had the car chipped?

TIA

I have the 2001 1.8 as well.

!. I can't help you with that.

2. I have that same same weird noise, but if you notice: it's not so much over bumps as it is when you shift/jerk the car. Try keeping it in gear (at ,<30 mph) and right before you're supposed to shift, let off the gas completely. You'll hear it every time. Even when you reapply the gas.

I've been trying to figure it out for months now, but I just can't put my finger on it. (motor mount maybe?)

3. My cluster is out for repair right now. There's a service on eBay for $165 or so.
You can do it yourself, but you better be awesome at soldering and dismantling/rebuilding your cluster....not to mention: you still have to buy the LCD display.

IMHO: It's worth every penny to have it done by a pro.

GL w/ everything.

Let me know if you solve #2

.
