Question New owner in Minnesota with a few Qs

Hello everyone im finally able to say ill be owning a 2000 A4 Quatro 5 speed. I already know about the timing belt and stuff my question is the clutch may be going out and I know a shop wont reserface a dual mass flywheel with as many miles as are on the one in the car, so im wonderin about the ECS light weight steel flywheel kits. I have heard going from dual mass to single mass will cause a loss in torque.

What in the world is the diverter valve and what does it do/how does it work

It may need a new valve cover gasket and after looking on ECS there are 4 different kits not sure what one to get.

If I remember correct the car is drive by wire, I hate that so ill be looking into a chip to help with that issue, I wont be looking for a ton of power out of it just to fix the lag of the throttle

I will also be eventually doing intake and exhaust.

I found a shop manual im ordering for 80 bucks not sure if there are more than one version for my car but I dislike chiltens and such.

Do any of you have any objections towards Amsoil for fluids.

If I come up with any more questions ill be sure to ask thank you all in advance

I have the ecs ra4 clutch kit and love it. Recommended
A diverter valve is the same as a blow off valve only it recirculates instead of vents to atmosphere.
I'm pretty sure any 1.8 valve cover gasket will work as all valve covers are interchangeable
Your car is drive by wire but a chip won't change that. They work fine anyways and can only be changed for a cable with very heavy modification
Intake is pointless. Stock one is good. For exhaust go custom with a magnaflow muffler
Get a Bentley manual
Amsoil is good but more importantly use full synthetic every 3000 miles.
Hope this helps

I recommend ringer-racing for the clutch. Super guy and can't beat his prices!
valve cover does depend on your engine code. You are ATM or AWM look right on the front of your motor there should be a tab with the 3 letter pressed into it.

Minnesota FTW!

if your looking to get it chipped, i recommend taking it to further preformance in minneapolis. Great place, great people.

Also, for the valve cover gasket check out Blauparts.com. Free shipping! if i remember correctly...

ecs has most everything with good service but i use MJMautohaus a lot for better prices + free delivery, shop around, amsoil real synthetic is great, easily go 5000 between changes, i went 10,000 due to many commuting highway miles, you can do a filter + top off at 5000. traded my 1.8T jetta at 199xxx still 20 lb vac. for your tranny prolly o2j same as vw i highly recommend redline MT-90 for better shifting, it can cure mild grinding when shifting and keeps the syncros happy. my 01 TT had mild grinding 1-2 shift MT-90 cured it, just research and you will find lots of info before making purchases, fuel filter change of course, good luck with your new ride

Thank you all for welcoming me to the forums. About the amsoil. I know the 1.8t gets sludge but amsoil is good for 10k plus miles is it really safe to use in the motor for that many miles? I searched the newbie thread and it really didn't answer all my Qs. I did find the exhaust I want but I want to go away from the dual tip muffler and do a rectangular oval to fill the gap. I'll go with the solid flywheel but hate sprung clutches. 1.8_turbo ima guess your from MN what part. I'll be back in Austin once I get home. The car I'm getting is from the cities. I am also thinking of getting a roof rack but I hear they can be rather noisy. Any ideas/pointers. I already know I want the b7 split 5 spoke rims so I'm good with that. I did read the K&N filters don't agree with our map sensors. And I have the Bentley manual n it's way to my home now. Finally I would be interested in oem mud flaps for the front and back. I'm searching but not finding any part numbers. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all again

I dont care how many miles amsoil claims their oil is good for. ANY oil you use make sure it is change at least every 5000, but if you can do it every 3000.
true the k&n filter doesnt work well with our cars but because of the mass airflow sensor. the oil cakes up on it an throws off the reading.
personally i find the mudflaps to be unsightly but if you want mine you can get them. i am missing one thought

Im from the northern twin cities area.

For the mudflaps, ECS tuning has a set for our cars. They are pretty pricey tho iirc

its everyones own choice, driving 1,000 wkly 10,000 came quickly, i always dropped oil very hot after at least 30 minute drive, summer hot is best, i still went 10,000 after retiring, thats when i started changing additional filter @ 5,000 due to short trips, amsoil says 1 yr max, in a naturally aspirated car 25,000 miles or 1 yr providing car is in good mechanical condition, this is with their full real synthetic formula only. at 199xxx miles tradin recently for my 01 TT the 01 jetta 1.8 boost gauage read 20" vac at idle which says WOW, this not stock prolly 285tq 265 hp apr ko-4 001 was a fun car and served me well, do not forget the redline MT-90 in the tranny, you will see many drivers attest to this, also if you want xtra heat protection redline oil is ester based aka expensive and can handle more heat than other non-ester synthetics, i always ran 10-30 wt in penna some synthetics are not real as per castrol aka BP court battle to label highest quality petroleum oils synthetic, they are IMO a slimeball organization, including the big oil well contamination in the gulf of mexico!!!! happy motoring!!
