im running S4 wheels on my A4 and im going to buy some winter tires for me and my cars first winter season

im in a debate either to go with 225/45/17's or 225/50/17's

anyone have had those sizes on their car, i do currently have the 225/45/17s on my car right now but i wonder if i can fit the 50s and if it would be worth it. it is a taller tire and will save on gas plus give me more cushion on the road

i would go with the 50 series tires as you can run them 5psi less than mandated when the snow is heavy on the ground for more traction, i don't think they would rub as I have 19" with 45 tires and im not rubbing anywhere, maybe that because I haven't lowered my avant yet!!???

I could also go 235/45/17s also for a wider tire, it's basically going to be winter season here in Utah and I want to have these tires Be just as good after winter is gone for when it's super hot in summer.

Anyone else run these tire sizes on your car?

All of your cars have to have Tires!

 

I always thought that thinner tires were the way to go when it came to snow. The thinner the tire, the smaller the contact patch and the higher the pressure per square inch so that it cuts through the snow instead of trying to ride on top of it like skis.
