Default new turbo?

sooo ive been hearing a wrapping sound coming from my turbo and i was letting my turbo cool down today and i realized a little bit of white smoke coming out of my exhaust. so im planning on getting a new turbo, but from what i hear APR doesnt adapt good with bigger turbos.
i was on this site
http://www.gpopshop.com/garrettturbos.html
and i was looking at the garett t3 t4 which seem to be able to put out a lot but i dont know if it would run good with apr.
also what is the difference between the garett ball bearings turbos and the rest?
i was going to just get another ko3 but it doesnt seem to be worth it if i can just pay another 2 bills to upgrade to a ko4? right?

i have a b5 1.8t

white smoke is water/coolant, not an oil leak. you might have a leaking head gasket.
