Default No power to sun visor/vanity mirror lighting. Can you help?

Hi guys,

I was replacing my sun visor/vanity bulbs to LEDS and I noticed that I had no power to sun visor/vanity mirror lighting.

The drivers side didn't work at first, but suddenly started working when I got to the passenger side.

The passenger side wouldn't work at all. I put my DIMM on it and found no current, so I figured I'd bypass the switch for diag. purposes.

I took the visor down and plugged the light directly into the (switches) power source (in the pillar). I got no power there either.

All fuses are good. I'm baffled.

Any ideas?

Thanks

LEDs have polarity, are you sure you had it oriented in the correct direction? Did you try flipping the bulb around?

I used a multimeter on the switch and the switche's power source.

It's definitely not a polarity issue.....or a switch issue for that matter.

"Definitely" is a strong word to use when diagnosing electrical problems, I tend to avoid it for more reasonable words like "not likely."

Let's trace the circuit.

Terminal 30 provides power to fuse S238 which is linked to fuse S14. S14 (10A) provides the circuit protection for both vanity mirror lights and the central locking pump.

Following the vanity mirror wire leads us to the driver's vanity light switch, followed by the light, and then to ground (ground connection 1, in interior light wiring harness.)

The passenger mirror is linked with the driver's mirror via a connection in the interior light wiring harness and also to the lights in the center at the sunroof. My knowledge of circuit diagrams isn't sufficient to understand all the various connections in the center light circuit, so I'll post it here for your reading pleasure.

Start by checking fuse 14 and confirm wire continuity.

I can read these diagrams just fine. Thank you!

I said "definitely" only because it was in fact definite. No power = no power.

I believe you caught the (beginning) of the problem, because the driver's side vanity light works intermittently, so there's definitely an issue there.

Fuses are definitely good.

Can you clarify where the ground is for vanity 1?

Thanks!

Wish I could, but their descriptions don't help much. I know there are a bunch of grounds by the left knee bolster near the hood release. I'd check there.
