noob question....
Hey guys. so Im new here. and when I searched I couldn't find a thread about the comparison of the different types of audis. what I want to know is the differnts between A4 and S4 performance wise. I have eyes and can see the looks differnce and I am only really interested in 4s so I was wondering if yall could help me out. thanks
The B5 S4 is a 2.7L Bi-Turbo V6 that generally comes with a 6 spd. manual but can be found in Tiptronic. I think it has about 318 hp stock and I don't know off the top of head how much torque. B5 A4s come in a 2.8L NA V6 or a 1.8L turbo four. Both can be found easily in auto or manual and come in either Quattro or FWD. The S4 only comes in Quattro. The B5 S4 is also very expensive to maintain being there's 2 turbos, 2 DVs, 2 intercoolers, etc. etc. The S4 also has much higher insurance than the regular A4s.

There is a huge difference between S4s and A4s, S4 is basically a 2.8 block with thinker walls to make 2.7l so its stronger, all stronger internals etc. Very nice cars. with K04s and MAF and injectors... everything RS4 your looking at 500's, yeah insurence might be a little higher but they are all audis. so no matter what your looking at higher prices. They are a very good buy if you can find one now-a-days. But no A4 can really compare to S4, i remember a long time ago when i was on here a guy TomRitt had a really nice fast 1.8 try and find that to see the potential of a A4.
so I am new to audi's but not to cars. My past experience with cars says computer chips aren't all that great. Now I'm not doubting you or anything. I am just wondering what chipped means and what kind of chip is it and what does it do? TIA for all your help.
Chips don't do much for naturaly aspirated engines, but if you have forced indcution (turbo, sc) then it can and does make a huge difference. There is no way to up the amount of air (effectively) with a n/a engine so you can only tweak the timing and fuel maping so much before it wont run right. With a turbocharged engine you can up the boost (air) quite a bit and tweak the hell out of timing and fuel maping.
