So got a new old A4 B5 2.8 30v and im not really sure how its supposed to sound.

It sounds a little like it is being powered by a colony of squirels bouncing around with acorns in the cylinders... Of course i know many cars have normal engine noise so it may be alright

Yeah thats just about the way mine sounds. Gotta say though, watching that vid almost made me puke lol i felt like i was on a bad rollercoaster hahaha

 

Huh? I don't think mine sounds like that. I mean the valve clicking is normal I don't recognize the other sound. Maybe my knocking power steering pump is covering it up. I think though if my power steering pump was normal it would pur nice and smooth w/ just a minor valve clicking noise.

 

well i thought about that too. the valve tick was the most noticable thing (and perfectly normal). I thought the other noise was the electric fan on the radiator, does that sound right?

 

yep its normal, the annoying 2.8 tick.

 

The ticking probably comes more from fuel injector pulse than the valves. Not a bad idea to run a can of seafoam through the tank every 10k or whatever to keep those things clean.

 

Does it sound like this? (minus the s/c whine) It's more audible at the beginning, but as mentioned, it's the famous 2.8 tick
