Model Year of the Vehicle. Enter the model year of your vehicle. Make sure that you enter all four digits.
Note: If the model year is older than 1973, you cannot use this transaction. The NYSDMV does not issue title certificates for vehicles that have a model year older than 1973.

Can you go to your DMV and have the title reissued to you? In NJ it is not a big deal to get a new title if you are the last registered owner of the vehicle. If not there is a whole drawn out process that involves that last registered owner filling out a document releasing the car to the new owner. Without a title in NJ the car cannot be driven on the road and is basically confined to track use or parts car. Not sure about NY but I believe that it is similar.
