My 97 1.8Tq A4's oil temp gauge is acting up. Sometimes while I'm driving I'll notice that the gauge moves up and down. I don't know what the problem could be. It jumps all the way up then back down to normal, sometimes it jumps up and down quite fast. Sometimes it stays all the way up for about a minute before dropping again. But most of the time its normal and stays at the normal temp. any ideas on what this could be?

oil temp sensor? idk where it is on the 1.8 but it's right on the lower pan on the 2.8

 

I ran Vag on my car and I do need a coolant temp sensor which I'm replacing this week, will that cause the oil gauge to act like that? Anyone know where the oil temp sensor is on a 97 1.8tq? thanks guys...

 

The ECT will not effect the oil temp gauge reading.
