Default Oil Light

My oil light randomly turns on when I get on the gas, but will shut off a minute later, I don't know why this is happening. I checked my oil level and it's fine, any suggestions? Thanks,

Mike

Since we don't know what car you're talking about, I'm going to guess 96 A4 based on your screename. 12V 2.8L? If you're running 5w-30, you can probably get away from that by switching to 5w-40. Tolerances are all opening up a bit on a high miles engine and the thinner oil squirts out easy and the pressure falls off. That or you need a new switch. Or you have sludge. Or you're screwed any number of other ways.

Could be sensor, could be sludge, depending on the engine. Anyway, don't wait to find out. Take the car to a garage and have the oil pressure checked. My guess is sludge.

Yes i have a 2.8L 12 valve with 100K and I believe that I have been using 10w-30 but I could be wrong. How much will a new sensor cost me, and what how serious is sludge build up and can i eliminate it without costing me a fortune?
