Default Oil light, help please.

My 96 a4 quattro 2.8 5sp is leaking a little oil, this problem is being remedied this monday. I have been keeping up with the oil level diligently and the oil temp does not exceed N.O.T. yet the oil light keeps coming on, the big red square on top right of the main indicators panel. does anyone have any helpful hints or experiences? Thanks for taking time to read and i look forward to the response. Have a great day.

My mechanic said pretty much all the seals on the front of the engine and the valve cover gaskets. Maybe one of the cam plugs as well but they need to steam clean it to really be able to tell. Monday I am having a timing belt kit: timing belt, cam seals, crank seal, waterpump and thermostat. The front bumper of the car is removed for any intensive replacement on the front of the motor, it's best to do all of those things at once. I bought a kit from Blauparts for $237 shipped (2day no less). My shop is charging me $500 for Labor, they are VW/Audi FREAKS. I got lucky having them close by. I just can't afford to have them fix everything my car needs. some i can do myself and some friends will do for little money, but only the simple stuff. That fortunately includes paint. I wil post If I find out from a source outside this thread.
