Oil temp low?
The oil temp gauge on my dash barely gets past 150 degrees, it stays at about 160, even in hot weather where I've driven for awhile. Is this a bad thing? No alarm or signal is going off because of it, but it's definitely in the lower part of the gauge which normally is not a super good thing...but then again it's not beeping at more and vcds says I don't have any fault codes
no not normal, and kinda bad not not the death of your car. wheres your coolant temp at during this time? and how does your heat work?
Heat works decent and coolant temp is directly in the middle when completely warmed up
Is there a thermostatic switch that controls the flow of oil through the oil cooler?
And by the way I use Mobil 1 0w-40 European formula full synthetic and it's about 55 degrees when I drive

Here is a picture of my gauge after 20 minutes of driving, engine was warmed up and coolant gauge was directly in the middle

sludddgggggeeeee

Really? I've used full synthetic since new and I just did seafoam in my crankcase and changed the oil 200 miles ago
i wouldnt say sludge. id say thermostat staying open. just myopinion though. either that or the oil temp sensor is bad
Which thermostat? And I don't know if this helps but I think my cct is going as I hear loud clicking at the back of the head
the only thermostat, the one for your coolant.
i have the same thing going on in my car. i thought it was normal because i just bought the car and drove the 2 hour home (it felt fine), but i guess this is a bad thing. heater and a/c works great too. what can i do?
Is that the coolant temperature switch/sensor? Because I just replaced that
no the thermostat is the thing in the block that opens when your coolant gets hotter.
Seems to me if the t-stat was stuck open his water temp would be down.
It's not going to blow your car up tomorrow if your oil doesn't get up to operating temp but it definitely isn't good. When the oil stays cooler like that it doesn't thin out like it's supposed to when it's hot, making it more difficult for the engine to get oil in all the little nooks and crannies that it's supposed to go (like up to the head to lubricate the valve train). |
what about the temp sensor being bad?

i think they are different. i know theres two sensors down there behind the oil cooler.

oil level and temp are the same in 01's, different in 058 blocks. i was thinking tstat because same thing happened to me. coolant would be fine temp durin the summer, but in the winter it wouldnt get up to operating temp. oil temp hardly got over 150 ever and the heat would only work half assed. after i put my built motor in, all is good. if OP has weather conditions that allow sub-freezing temps and his heat starts to not blow as hot, id say tstat for sure.

Guess that tech guru title is well deserved after all :p

im so awesome at the audi 1.8t motor its ridiculous. in fact, the other day i was doin it doggy style with my girlfreind. she asked whats on my back? i put my haynes manual on her so i could read audi specs while doin it. ok maybe not really, but im so gonna pull it off next time
bahahahaha xD
Ok so the heat does work somewhat, I just thought it was an Audi or an older car thing. I'll replace the thermostat but the one thing that makes no sense to me is if the coolant temp is fine and staying in the middle, then the thermostat in theory is working (I may be wrong). And how would that affect the oil temp?
And by the way it sounds like crap, it's clicking loud, it sounds like a diesel
Because your cam chain tensioner is bad and you still haven't fixed it.
Haha makes sense! So new cct, valve gasket, cct gasket, and thermostat?
and valley plug ;)
Valley plug is located where? (Sorry I'm a noob)
It's a 1.8T but thanks!
Got it, thanks guys! My car would have died awhile ago without all of your help through different problems!
