I've read the other threads on this item, but see no answer. I have adjusted the cables as prescirbed in the Bentley, but still the brake handle must be pulled up very high to get the brake to engage. Any ideas?

 

Yes. When those back calipers get old, it is not uncommon for the e-brake lever to freeze up. So before you blame the cable, pull the back wheels off and be sure the lever the cables connect to can move freely. If they can't, you need a reman caliper.
