Thumbs down phuk me

30valve about 100k manual with drivetrain stabalizer

alright so... i just got my car back from shop with the southbend stage 2 clutch.. before I sent it in I was hearing some strange sounds coming from transmission... the people at the shop said my clutch was fried so I was hoping that was the problem.....lol

"The sound" When I put her in first I can feel something big bucking the car back and forth a little bit, nothing too serious but noticable. When I drive it in the other gears it makes an awful chattering sound... kind of like something rubbing against some kind of metal shaft and it like bounces off and hits again.. making the "chatter". Now theres kindof like a balancing point where the noise isn't very noticable (around 2300) but as soon as I accelrate or decelerate the sound comes back. When I put it in neutral the sound goes away...until I start slowing down where the chatter is lighter but continuous with the speed of the car and eventually comes to a slow stop.

Im really no expert on cars and Im hoping its some kind of mount..maybe transmission mounts? Pleaaase any help would be appreciated Thanks!

Sure it's not something loose hitting the drive shaft under the car?

Im at work now but will check later

but while my car was in the shop they noticed a cv boot was shredded up from the half shaft..so im thinkn even though they replaced the cv could there be something else causing the half shaft to hit the cv?

Sounds like a driveshaft noise.

See if any of the symptoms on blauparts' website match yours.

update

well my worst nightmare has come to fruition...tranny problem

my mechanic sucked out some tranny fluid which was replaced about 2 mo ago and there were shards of metal in it. They said something in the trans is causing some kind of friction with driveshaft

there bringing out a tranny specialist from audi tomorrow to see if he wants a side job or can atleast diagnose the problem

the title of the thread speaks volumes

Used transmissions are only a few hundred.

yea the 5 speed is fairly easy to replace. a junkyard transmission in good condition is only like $500 plus maybe 5-8 hours of labor
