What year is your car and what year did the cluster come out of?

Its probably wont work, you need to get one from a 99 or older

do you have the 99 or 99.5? i believe the 99.5 has the digital HUD but the 99 had the old style with the little squares. if the clusters physically look identical, it should work.

Audi/VW is notorious for VIN specific parts, VIN splits, and year-to-year changes. The diagnostic gateway on these cars is through the instrument cluster, so they are very specific and need to be properly coded. Unfortunately, this is often a part a lot of people bite the bullet on and have replaced at the dealer.

ONLY the dealer should be working on your instrument cluster, thats not something you should DIY.

I have a 99 not a 99.5, the only different pluggin is the middle one, the one i bought looks identical to the one i have excepte for the clock, on the onld one its analog and the niew one is digital... ok so last night i took it out again, i plugged in the blue plugg in and the green plugging they plugged in just like on the old one, then tryed to turn it on and it was fine!!! everything turned on even the center screen! everything was fine untill i turned the car on, therevs weren't hooked up so it wasent giving me any signal, also the screen read the " press clutch to start engine" when it was already on. i knowdiced that there were some things that that cluster had that my other one didn't, like the ASR, and dum little things like that that i dont need anyways!... Ok, when i took the cluster out of the wrecked audi, it was a 1.8t so i know im gonna have to vag-com it because i have the 2.8, but i when i took out the cluster i also took the pluggin, i cut the wires.. sooo i was looking at the wires that go into the pluggin and there are a-lot of them that are the same color from the one on my car! so i think i might just be able to rewire that part, what do you guys think???
