Default Possible Coolant Leak????

Every two-three months, I am guessing a bit (I live in AZ) I need to fill my expansion tank from the min to max line. I cannot see where I am losing coolant. I cannot smell anything. Any ideas? And what would be the best way to test to see where it may be coming from?

Thanks

Have a feel behind the head on the coolant flange and see if there is coolant weeping. It may be dripping down the back and on to the transmission and pooling in the gusseting and then evaporating. Also look for white film of dried coolant under the reservoir. It may be dripping while your driving and may not when the car is off.

The reservoir is fairly new but I re-checked the reservoir and did not see anything. Could you give me a better idea where the coolant flange is on the back side of the head. Is it near the temp sensor (not that I exactly know where that is)?

Thanks

The coolant flange is where the coolant temp sensor is plugged in to. It is black plastic and tends to leak after being 20 years old. There are not too many things on the back of the head so just look for a black plastic unit. You can’t see it well from the front as the secondary air injection valve (silver canister type thing on the passenger side) is kind of blocking it. Stick your hand back from the passenger side when the engine is cold and see if you can feel any coolant or coolant residue. Shine a light at transmission through the tunnel and see is any liquid reflects when you shine down.

Thank you for the information. Will take a look this weekend. Finally supposed to be below 100 and I will also have the time. Much appreciated.
