im debating on frenching my high beams and painting the inner chrome frame black then light smoke the lenses and installing city lights on my 1pc oems.

anyone with diy headlights on the board?

Superdug has done this to his one piece headlights. He painted the inner headlights black.

some that I found. looks pretty cool actually, I don't think smoking the lenses would be necessary. just don't paint the reflectors

nah i also want to light tint the lense like i did to my old gti



its a small can with japanese writting on it $25

i did the same to the emblem

i hate the black plastic on the outside lower grills on those GTI's... looks cheap

lol i think that goes without saying

i like the idea though, would look cool on a dark-colored car. I like the way the silver stands out on mine though

Whats the best way to open up these headlights? And is there anything to watch out for?

I've heard that if you bake them in an oven CAREFULLY, it softens the sealant enough that you can pull the lens and rear housing apart. I'm talkin on top of a towel at a couple hundred degrees for a few minutes, don't put the thing on self-clean or anything lol

If you've got one i'm sure a heat gun would do the trick as well.

nah i have a heatgun and opened a few lights in my time but some are different/tricky

Yeah I'd go that route then, the only problem I'm aware of besides that is that sometimes it's not easy to get them sealed back up correctly. I'd have a tube of clear silicone on hand
