I've thought about debadging the A4 and 2.8/Q several times, but always decided against it because of not having decent exhaust tips or being lower. In person, it doesn't look busy like it does in that picture.

I didn't install the American-Euro trunk. It was imported on the car as a 1999.0, not a 1996, unless someone decided to buy a '96 trunk and have it painted to match or found one and cared enough to install. Seeing as it's a 2.8 and the previous owner was not an enthusiast as far as I can tell, it would seem highly improbable they would go through such an effort.

 

^1999 never came with Euro trunk here in the US.

 

Randy!! I know they were supposedly only imported with them in the early B5 models. Were the early models also offered in Volcano Mica Black? If they were, it would seem like a lot of effort to find another VMB sedan to swap trunks with. Maybe they aren't that rare after all. I'll take it either way.

 

'96 NA Trunk = Prefacelift Euro Trunk.

They are pretty much the same.

I've had a prefacelift trunk removed from a european '98 or '99 1.8T. It looked exactly the same as the '96 NA trunk I also had.

mine is a 96 2.8Q in pearl white, not a bad color, don't see a bunch around here. A pita to get touch up paint though...

 

I don't think 96 ever came in Volcano black. Maybe they had to replace the trunk and they looked at a local junkyard for one? I'm pretty certain those never came on anything beside 96 and some early 97 here in the US. Unless you have an Euro spec B5!

Jason - that grey is beautiful. I think it's an Euro only color tho. never seen one here in the US.

 

I think Volcano Black was only sold in '99 (.0 and .5). I've never met anyone with one other than that year.

Really the only "rare" B5 A4 colors would be any of the greens aside from Cactus, Peilcan Blue, Brilliant Yellow, Autumn Red, and India Red. Basically any of them that don't have more that 20 votes here: What color is your B5?
