Default Potential Brake problem???

So, I was driving down the highway earlier, and all of a sudden I felt something hit the floorboard from the outside, like maybe I hit a rock or something to that degree. So, I continued driving until I went to stop...It made a horrible sound, so I downshifted to a stop and pulled into the gas station and listened to the sound again at a slower speed, and the sound resembles as if the rim of the car is hitting something on the brakes. I tried to look but it was rather dark. But I didn't notice anything wrong with the brakes looking through the rim. Any Ideas as to what it could be. Oh, Also I noticed that if I was backing up the sound was not made.

So, I took a better look at what was down there with my roommate, and noticed that the brake caliper is touching the rim, but can be pushed forward with your finger, and seems to stay there when pushed forward. Does anyone know what could possibly be making this happen?

The caliper should not move like that. Check the calliper asemply and make sure that it is in tact and that all the bolts are tight.

Sounds like you lost one of the bolts that holds the caliper to the carrier or carrier to the upright.

Just go to the Hardware store with the other one and match up the thread pitch, diameter and length. Make sure it's hardened. Look for 10.9 printed in the head.

Go to a "real" hardware store. Home Depot, Lowes, etc don't have much for metric bolts. Fastenal, Grainger, or even the local Ace should have it.
