How driveable is a depowered rack in a Quattro? I have a depowered rack in my Miata that I love, but the extra weight and all wheel drive seem like they might make it unpleasant.

I ask because I have a 98 A4 quattro with a leaky p/s pump that needs a new serpentine belt, and I'd love to get some weight off the front end at the same time as solving the hydraulic fluid coated engine bay issue.

Remove hose's between rack and pump
Fit short hose between rack inlet / outlet (unions available at hydraulic hose suppliers) and short pipe connection.
Reconnect pump to top up cylinder to keep cool
Steering very heavy to start but after 3 months acceptable very good at speed
