Default Puking coolant from the evaporator box

As the title states, I have coolant puking from the evaporator under the dash. This is after I just performed a t-belt job and swapped in a new trans.

I'm not sure what could be causing this, yet. Stuck thermostat????

Also, the car was fine, shut it off, and about half hour later I have an intermittent ABS light and my dash lights and LCD display panels are not functioning.

Any ideas?

You likely need a new evap core... it's leaking. EDIT: HEATER CORE

As for the lights, start checking fuses or grab a VAGcom to check codes.

Interesting....The guy I bought the car from never mentioned it as being a problem, not that that means anything but he seemed fairly honest. I picked the car up cheap with a bad torque converter seal.

So I will just assume the core was leaking when I bought it. It comes in spurts, sometimes it will spray out when the car is up to operating temp. It will also come out of the defrost vents, etc. A gurgling noise is also present.

I'm wondering if the coolant is getting to the ABS module, I believe I read it is located in the floorboard of the car???/ I could be mistaken though..

Anyone torn apart the dash in one of these cars before? 01 A4

the ABS module is under the hood on the drivers side. easiest way to tell why its on is to scan for codes.

coolant coming out of the dash would be from a leaky heater core.

I agree on the leaky core, however I was wondering why all of a sudden it starts leaking and only does so when the car is up around operating temps.

Once the T-Stat opens, coolant is allowed to flow freely through the heater core. There's also more pressure in a warm coolant system, which will push coolant out of cracks or rotted lines.

Thanks. I will tear into the dash when I get a chance and try and find the source of that leak. If I'm lucky I may be able to repair it without replacing the evaporator core, but thats being hopeful.

For some reason the auto parts stores only care the evap core for the manual a/c cars. I'm assuming mine is considering automatic a/c control with the electronic panel. Again, I'm assming that the opposite of the manual a/c evap core has a water valve to regulate the flow of coolant through the evap to adjust cooling properties accordingly.

Any ideas where to find the auto a/c evap core?

Hopefully I don't run into too many issues ripping the dash apart. Then again, I am not an Audi mechanic, just a CAT one, and they are slightly different.

Its not an 'evap core', its the heater core. The evaporator is for the A/C and would leak R-134a.
