Default Put it some HIDs, no more instrument cluster.

OK, to start out with I have searched this one and not come up with anything definitive.

I have a 98.5 A4TQM. Yesterday I put in Valeo One-piece HID housings with a VVME D2S kit. The lights work great, look great, etc.

The problem I have is now my instrument cluster doesn't work. I still have ambient temperature and voltmeter, but nothing else. No tach, speedo, coolant, clock, etc. I already went through the fuses, and none of them were blown. If these two were tied together for power, they should both not be functioning, but the headligths still function perfectly.

Also, the CEL has come on, which could be unrelated, I have to run VAGCOM to find out for certain.

If anyone has any insight, I would be most appreciative.

Are they powered from the stock headlight wiring or straight from the battery? Have you checked your fuses?

Is it just the lights in the cluster or do the needles not move as well?

I used ECS wiring adapters to wire from stock harnesses, and I did already check all the fuses.

The only lights are the CEL, ambient temp display and the airbag light (that one has been on for awhile ), none of the needles work except the voltmeter

I would hope its an unrelated problem because if it isn't it almost sounds like the harness could have shorted something badly and caused some more severe problems.

There are no other issues that I haven't already mentioned. No other electrical issues arose from this

have you tried disconnecting your lights and turning your car on to see if your instrument cluster comes back on? that would be a sure way to figure out if this problem is directly related to your recent install. just throwin it out there...
