Default question for the A4er's

I have a s4 so I'm on the S4 site but this is for my sisters A4. She has a 2001 1.8T. I was driving the it home yersterday after looking at it at school and A CEL came on blinking with it Misfiring on cylinder 1 and 2 codes p0300, p0301, and p0302 came up. Any Ideas? I pulled the coil packs but nothing from that. I dont have much time to look at bc I'm in the process of droppin in the motor in my S4. Thanks lata

P0300 is a generic misfire code. P0301 and P0302 point to misfires on cylinders 1 and 2, but it wont tell you why. When is the last time the spark plugs were changed?

sounds like coil packs or spark pluggs....
try switching coil 1 to 3 or 2 to 3 and then run it,
if the misfire follows the coil then its the coils...
if not then most likely its the pluggs...

you can handle that but cant diagnose misfires? not trying to be a dick, but, ya know.
I'd try the aforementioned swapping of coilpacks to different cylinders and scan again seeing if the misfire follows. Sounds more like it needs new plugs tho.

^^ seriously. and depending on which year S4 you have, the coil packs in your car are interchangeable with a 1.8t.

its either one of 3 things (99% of the time)

1- spark plugs are worn, might as well replace them first as they are cheap and should be done anyway

2- coil packs bad, do what was suggested in the above post and see if the misfire moves

3- bad ICM. if plugs are good and the misfire doesnt move with the coil packs, its probably the ICM.

2001 AWM has the B6 style coil packs, no ICM.

check when you had your spark plugs changed last time. if they are old do those first then see how it is if it does it again its from the coil packs.

i had misfire on 2 or so. then i changed all spark plugs. it went away.
then recently i had 3 and 4 misfire so i think its from my coil packs

I looked at the plugs, they didnt looked fowled and were also replaced a year ago with iridium plugs. I just didn't think anything of it to switch the packs bc the plugs looked fine. It was just a quick check I did bc Im not standing out in the snow storm we had today. And the packs arent interchangable with the S4. The s4 uses a three pin setup and a4 has a four pin setup. And there is no ICM like tweaked said. This was just a simple question I had bc I wasnt in the mood to dick around with this car.
