Default quick question about revving in neutral..

so i see videos all the time on youtube and stuff with guys revving their cars in neutral and getting their DV or whatever they are running to sound off.. im assuming these guys are chipped? cause if im in neutral and rev, i dont get into any boost and i dont get any DV sound off.. normal right?

The DV doesn't go PSSSSSSSST

That's a BOV(Blow off valve), and most say not to use them with our cars. Search, we don't need another to BOV or not to BOV thread

I think onepoint8tee got one to try out awhile back - maybe he'll chime in

no no no.. you see.. that completley didnt answer my question in any way shape or form?? im very educated on these cars.. i know the noises my car makes and where they come from? so please dont insult my intelligence.. im not starting a should i get one or not thread.. i already have a forge..

i certainly know the difference between these two which is EXACTLY why i have a DV.. so what i AM asking.. is why my DV doesnt sound off when revving in neutral.. is it because im not chipped and it doesnt achieve boost when not in gear? and is this normal.. thanks in advance guys

true that, what a useless post.

Depending on how high/fast you rev the motor you will make a couple psi for a split second. If you have an intake or bov you will hear the faint sound of the valve. Since the tb closes, you cant make psi. Some cars have a 2step which keeps the TB open which will allow them to make some psi in N, more if it has a timing retard aswell.

thats exactly what i was looking for cincy.. haha i do have an intake and DV.. i havnt ever put it to the floor when in neutral to rev, since its not an indy car, it just feels wrong haha.. but that makes alot of sense.. i just wanted to make sure there wasnt something out of the ordinary wrong.. appreciate it man

Well from your dumbass comment of "whatever they are running" I assumed you didn't know what a BOV was. I have only heard my car make a faint whoosh sound a couple of times and only on deceleration in second. Like Cincy said, if you get an intake setup or do the swiss cheese airbox mod then it will allow it to be a little bit more audible. If you want to provide a few links to the youtube vids you are making reference to then we'll see what kind of setups those people are running. So I guess the only to thing to answer your OP is to say "yeah it's normal".

im not gunna sit here and argue over a forum.. but when i say DV or whatever they are running.. it could be a BOV, could be a splitter.. could be a hybrid.. could be any of those things right? right.. regardless of whatever ppl are running, there are youtube videos of people with their hoods open, car running, in neutral.. revving their engines and sounding "whatever they are running" off.. i have an open element intake, i have a forge 007.. and since my car doesnt sound off when in neutral and revving, i wanted to know if it was simply because im not chipped and dont boost in neutral?? or if something could possibly be wrong.. my DV is plenty audible while driving, just not when im sitting there revving the engine like i see other people do.. it was a simple question that the first time around you didnt even come close to answering or even make an attempt at.. which is why i said what i said.. cincy however did answer my question, and thanks to him, i now know.

ha ^

hey i thought the forge 004 was the one that was audible (cause its dual piston)

i wasnt aware that the 007 was audible too... thats cool if its a true DV (hence causing no troubles) AND getting a little sound out of it!

however, my cuz with an 01 has an hks ssqv BOV running on his car with no problems at all. he has been running it since he bought the car, and loves it. no CEL or anything either.

osin34: do you have any video clips of you cruisin in your car to get a feel of how loud anything your 007 makes?

i got a 710n when i chipped my car, but i kinda wish i would have gotten something like what you are talking about, im not looking for something thats really LOUD, but i wouldnt mind having a little whoosh at high rpm shifts

hey flynn, i dont have any videos of me cruising but ill try and take one.. its hard cause without a really good mic and recorder its gunna be hard to pick up the noise over my exhaust and everything but ill give it a shot.. since im not chipped and only make 6-8psi, its not as loud as it will be after i get chipped but.. without any music going you can hear it very clearly.. and im not sure what it sounds like outside the car, maybe ill try and get a video of that too in the near future.. but yea its not even a woosh really.. its more of a crash? perfect sound in my opinion.. ill see what i can do for you as far as the vids go =)
